Get Reading, Get Better, Get Libraries

This autumn libraries across Wales are promoting the benefits they can have on people's health and wellbeing. Launching the campaign on World Mental Health Awareness Day (10th October), libraries will show case the great sources of information they offer and how the social benefits of visiting the library and joining in group activities can have a positive impact on your life.
Libraries offer:
General health information and referral access to Health Libraries
Free assisted on-line access
Facilities, resources and equipment suitable for people with disabilities, such as visual impairment
Strong links with leisure and fitness centres
Books for pleasure that improve wellbeing

The Society of Chief Librarians (Wales) has prepared this report in order to demonstrate the role public libraries have in relation to health, wellbeing and social benefits. SCL Wales believe this potential requires greater recognition and explanation within health and social care strategies and priorities.
